Metastatic thyroid carcinoma rarely affects the orbit. This case highlights a rare instance in a 35-year-old woman, representing the youngest reported patient with this condition.

  • A 35-year-old woman presented with a superotemporal orbital mass.
  • The mass caused bony erosion of the lateral orbital wall.
  • Computed tomographic (CT) scanning confirmed the orbital mass and bony erosion.

Findings:

  • Orbital exploration and biopsy revealed metastatic thyroid carcinoma.
  • The patient had a history of thyroid lobectomy for "benign" goiter 6 years prior.
  • This is the youngest reported patient with orbital metastasis from thyroid carcinoma.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of considering metastatic disease in orbital masses, even in younger patients.
  • It highlights a rare but significant complication of thyroid carcinoma.
  • Further research into the mechanisms and early detection of orbital metastases from thyroid cancer is warranted.
