Web-based forums facilitate idea exchange for interest communities.
Nurses utilized these platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic to share experiences and concerns.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze nurse-generated content to understand the evolution of their work concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Main Methods:

Analysis of 14,060 COVID-19 related posts from March 2020 to April 2021.
Application of unsupervised machine learning (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) and thematic qualitative analysis.
Human-in-the-loop approach for topic categorization and temporal analysis of evolving perspectives.

Main Results:

Identification of 20 major themes representing nurses' work concerns, evolving biweekly.
Dominant concerns shifted throughout the study period.
Narratives of work concerns were developed by analyzing temporal theme patterns.

Conclusions:

Professional web forums effectively capture detailed insights into nurses' work concerns and workplace stressors during crises.
Monitoring online discussions can provide valuable data for healthcare organizations to understand caregiver impact and improve crisis response and planning.
