  • 358 registered nurses in operating rooms participated in the initial survey.
  • 331 nurses were successfully followed up in the second wave via telephone.

  • Robot maintenance requirements exhibited a negative correlation with nurse-robot engagement (β=-.15, P<.05).
  • The structural model demonstrated acceptable fit to the data.

  • This study is the first to link assistive robot benefits and maintenance to nurse engagement.
  • The positive impact of robot benefits on engagement is more significant than the negative impact of maintenance.
  • Robot developers should prioritize communicating and designing for robot benefits in healthcare settings.
