Summary

The Gilboa Functional Test Online (GIFT-Online) is an acceptable and reliable telehealth tool for assessing pediatric graphomotor skills. This remote assessment overcomes barriers to accessing occupational therapy services.

Background:

Telehealth offers a solution for accessible pediatric occupational therapy.
Remote assessments are crucial for overcoming geographical and logistical barriers.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the acceptability, inter-rater reliability, and concurrent validity of the Gilboa Functional Test Online (GIFT-Online).
To establish GIFT-Online as a reliable video-conference-based graphomotor assessment for children.

Main Methods:

A community-based sample of 157 children aged 3-7 years was screened using GIFT-Online.
Inter-rater reliability was assessed on a subset of 40 children.
Concurrent validity was examined by correlating GIFT-Online scores with DCDQ'07, LDCDQ, and DPSQ.

Main Results:

Inter-rater reliability for GIFT-Online was excellent (r = 0.97).
Significant correlations were found between GIFT-Online and DCDQ'07 (r = 0.29), LDCDQ, and DPSQ (r = -0.35), supporting construct and concurrent validity.
Parents and children found the online assessment acceptable.

Conclusions:

GIFT-Online is an acceptable and valid method for assessing pediatric graphomotor performance remotely.
The study supports the reliability and validity of GIFT-Online as a telehealth screening tool.
This remote assessment method overcomes challenges posed by physical distancing and travel restrictions.
