  • Treatment with pimozide, an antipsychotic medication, resulted in a dramatic cessation of the patient's infestation symptoms.
  • Symptomatic improvement was sustained over a 9-month follow-up period with no recurrence of delusional infestation.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of considering and addressing underlying organic factors, such as dementia, in patients presenting with delusional infestation.
  • Pimozide may be an effective therapeutic option for delusional infestation, particularly in elderly patients with comorbid neurodegenerative conditions.
