Background:

Parental time investment is crucial for child development.
Economic policies, such as minimum wage laws, can influence family behaviors.
Previous research has not fully explored the link between minimum wage increases and parental time allocation.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the impact of minimum wage changes on parents' time spent with children.
To analyze how these changes affect various child-related activities.
To identify differential effects across demographic subgroups.

Main Methods:

Utilized a differences-in-differences strategy.
Employed national time diary data from 2003 to 2018.
Analyzed the association between minimum wage increases and parental time use.

Main Results:

A $1 minimum wage increase correlated with a 2.6% rise in weekend active childcare and a 2% increase in secondary childcare time.
Effects were more pronounced for mothers, particularly non-employed mothers.
Significant increases in child health-related activities were observed for unmarried parents and parents of color (~55%).
