Is Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography Redundant for Suspected Intracranial Infection in the Emergency Setting?

Contrast-enhanced head CT scans are often redundant for diagnosing acute intracranial infections. Most infections show clear signs on noncontrast CT, guiding further MRI evaluation, except in cases with obscured findings.
