Blood Studies for Cardiovascular System I: Cardiac Biomarkers01:20

Blood Studies for Cardiovascular System I: Cardiac Biomarkers

226
Cardiac biomarkers are enzymes, proteins, and hormones released into the blood when cardiac cells are injured. They are powerful tools for triaging.
The essential diagnostic tools for detecting myocardial necrosis and monitoring individuals suspected of having acute coronary syndrome (ACS) include:
Troponins
Troponins, particularly cardiac troponins I and T, are the most precise and sensitive markers of myocardial injury. They are detectable within 4-6 hours of myocardial injury and remain...

Area of Science:

  • Public Health
  • Epidemiology
  • Cardiovascular Research

Background:

  • Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) pose a significant global health burden.
  • Limited resources necessitate strategic research prioritization.
  • Identifying national research priorities is crucial for effective CVD control.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To establish a prioritized list of cardiovascular disease research topics in Iran.
  • To utilize standard indigenous methodologies for priority setting.
  • To guide future research and policy decisions in Iranian cardiovascular health.

Main Methods:

  • An extensive literature search of national and international studies was conducted.
  • A multistage, indigenous approach based on multicriteria decision analysis was adapted.
  • A working group of experts and members of the National Network of CVD Research (NCVDR) were involved in defining and ranking priorities.

Main Results:

  • Thirteen priority research areas for cardiovascular disease in Iran were identified.
  • The top five priorities include hypertension, ischemic heart disease (IHD) prevention and control, IHD burden, CVD registration, and the impact of COVID-19 on CVD.
  • These priorities were determined through a consensus process involving national experts.

Conclusions:

  • A comprehensive set of cardiovascular research priorities for Iran has been established.
  • The identified priorities were determined using a rigorous, indigenous methodology.
  • These priorities will serve as a valuable guide for researchers and health policymakers in Iran.
