Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate patient experience and satisfaction with FIT.
  • To explore patient perspectives at an early adopter site in England.

Main Methods:

  • An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was employed.
  • Quantitative data were collected via mailed surveys (n=260) and analyzed using multivariate logistic regression.
  • Qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured telephone interviews (n=20) and analyzed thematically.

Main Results:

  • Overall patient satisfaction with FIT was high (88.7%).
  • Satisfaction with GP consultations (74.4%) and result delivery (76.2%) was lower than with the test itself.
  • Lower satisfaction was linked to increased area deprivation, lack of test purpose explanation, and not receiving results from a GP.

  • Patient satisfaction with FIT for symptomatic colorectal cancer screening is generally high.
  • Enhancing patient satisfaction requires clear communication about the test's purpose and consistent delivery of results by healthcare providers.
