Area of Science:

  • Endocrinology
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Adrenal Gland Disorders

Background:

  • Primary hyperaldosteronism is often caused by adrenal adenomas.
  • Adrenal lesions require careful diagnostic and therapeutic consideration.
  • Minimally invasive approaches are preferred for adrenal surgery when appropriate.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe a specific surgical approach for adrenal lesions.
  • To define the indications and contraindications for this adrenal surgical technique.

Main Methods:

  • Application of a minimally invasive surgical approach.
  • Patient selection based on lesion characteristics (size, function, malignancy evidence).

Main Results:

  • Successful application in patients with primary hyperaldosteronism due to right adrenal adenoma.
  • Successful application in functioning and nonfunctioning adrenal lesions < 6 cm without evidence of malignancy.

Conclusions:

  • This surgical approach is a viable option for specific adrenal conditions.
  • Contraindications include pheochromocytoma, adrenal carcinoma, and lesions > 6 cm.
