AMPK Activation Restores Salivary Function Following Radiation Treatment.

Radiation therapy for head and neck cancers damages salivary glands. Activating adenosine monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) with AICAR or metformin may protect salivary glands from radiation damage.
