Summary

Pregnancy after a systemic sclerosis diagnosis did not significantly affect long-term kidney, lung, or overall function in women. This finding offers hope for scleroderma patients considering pregnancy, though vigilance for postpartum complications is advised.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the long-term trajectory of scleroderma disease activity in women who experienced pregnancy after SSc diagnosis compared to nulliparous women.
  • To assess the impact of pregnancy on key SSc-related organ systems and overall disease status.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of data from the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group registry.
  • Comparison of patient characteristics between nulliparous women and those with at least one pregnancy post-SSc diagnosis.

  • The findings provide a reassuring message for SSc patients considering pregnancy.
  • Physicians and patients should maintain awareness of potential postpartum complications and monitor disease activity accordingly.
