  • The study included trainees and faculty in cardiothoracic, general, plastic, and vascular surgery.
  • Data from 367 complete responses were analyzed.

Main Results:

  • Over 92% of respondents reported experiencing incivility in the past year.
  • Females and Asian Americans reported higher rates of incivility.
  • Incivility was strongly associated with work withdrawal, particularly among highly committed individuals.

Conclusions:

  • Incivility is widespread in academic surgery and significantly linked to work withdrawal.
  • Eliminating incivility is essential for the well-being of surgical professionals and the healthcare environment.
