Open Educational Resources (OER) can be remixed to create new materials. The ProvOER Model tracks OER history, ensuring users understand resource origins and transformations for confident use.
Area of Science:
- Educational Technology
- Knowledge Management
- Digital Libraries
Background:
- Open Educational Resources (OER) facilitate knowledge creation and sharing.
- Adapting and remixing OER requires understanding their origin and transformation history.
- Existing metadata and repositories offer insufficient OER provenance information.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose a Provenance Model for OER (ProvOER Model).
- To enable comprehensive documentation and identification of OER provenance.
- To ensure users have adequate information about OER history for confident usage.
Main Methods:
- Defined a minimum set of metadata reflecting OER properties and creation activities.
- Developed the ProvOER Model for documenting OER provenance.
- Conducted experiments to evaluate the ProvOER Model's effectiveness.
Main Results:
- The ProvOER Model provides a suitable representation of OER provenance.
- The model successfully identifies original OER used in revision or remix activities.
- It accurately captures the continuous development process of new OER.
Conclusions:
- The ProvOER Model enhances the traceability and trustworthiness of OER.
- It supports the transparent sharing and adaptation of educational knowledge.
- This model is crucial for maintaining the integrity of evolving OER.
