Background:

Acute pancreatitis is a serious inflammation of the pancreas.
Drug-induced pancreatitis is a recognized but uncommon etiology.
Tetracycline antibiotics are broad-spectrum antimicrobials with potential adverse effects.

Observation:

A young, healthy male experienced two distinct episodes of acute pancreatitis.
Both pancreatitis episodes occurred after short-term tetracycline administration (under 10 days).
The patient had normal liver and renal function tests during both events.

Findings:

This report documents the second known case of tetracycline-induced pancreatitis in an otherwise healthy individual.
The findings suggest a potential idiosyncratic reaction to tetracycline, leading to pancreatic inflammation.
Exclusion of other common causes of pancreatitis was critical in attributing the episodes to tetracycline.

Implications:

Clinicians should consider tetracycline as a potential cause of acute pancreatitis, especially in young, healthy patients.
Further research may be needed to elucidate the mechanisms of tetracycline-induced pancreatitis.
Awareness of this rare adverse drug reaction can aid in timely diagnosis and management, preventing recurrent exposure.
