COVID-19 diarrhea is linked to SARS-CoV-2 infection causing endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in gut cells. This stress releases signals that activate enteric neurons, disrupting fluid absorption and causing diarrhea.

- These findings highlight epithelial-enteric neuronal crosstalk as a key factor in COVID-19-related diarrhea.
