Summary

Hallux valgus (HV) surgeries may worsen forefoot function by reducing plantar load on the hallux. This systematic review found no evidence of improved forefoot function and suggests a potential increased risk of metatarsalgia after HV surgery.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review and meta-analyze changes in plantar load after hallux valgus surgery.
  • To assess the biomechanical effects of HV surgery on forefoot function.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic search of multiple databases (Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, etc.).
  • Inclusion of studies assessing pre- and post-operative plantar pressure in HV patients.
  • Meta-analysis using a random-effects model to evaluate load-related parameters.
