  • To identify optimal HPT presentation methods for reliable substance demand evaluation.

Main Methods:

  • 365 participants recruited via Amazon Mechanical Turk completed two of three HPT presentations: List, Ascending, or Random.
  • Mixed model regression with random effects was used to analyze outcomes.
  • Evaluated data consistency (Bounce, Trend, Reversals from Zero) and purchasing behavior metrics (R², BP₁, ln(α), ln(Q₀), ln(Omax), ln(Pmax)).

Main Results:

  • Task presentation significantly affected data consistency, specifically the 'Bounce' criterion (p = .001).
  • Significant effects of task presentation were observed for purchasing behavior metrics R², BP₁, ln(α), and ln(Omax) (all p < .001).

Conclusions:

  • The Random HPT presentation is not recommended due to its tendency to produce unsystematic data.
  • List and Ascending HPT presentations yield comparable results regarding data consistency and purchasing behavior.
  • The List presentation may be preferable due to potentially better participant experience.
