Summary

Catheter ablation for pediatric ventricular arrhythmias is generally successful, with no identified predictors for acute or late outcomes. Further multicenter studies are needed to better understand predictors and results.

  • Catheter ablation for ventricular tachycardia (VT) and premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) is an approved but infrequent procedure in pediatric patients.
  • Limited data exist on the outcomes of pediatric VT/PVC ablation, necessitating further research.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report outcomes of catheter ablation for ventricular ectopy and VT in a pediatric population from a high-volume center.
  • To evaluate patient outcomes and procedural details of pediatric ventricular arrhythmia ablation.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of institutional data from July 2009 to May 2021.
  • Analysis of 116 procedures in 102 pediatric patients, comparing outcomes and procedural details.

Main Results:

  • A total of 112 ablations were performed with an 88.4% success rate; one patient died due to a coronary complication.
  • No significant differences in early ablation results were found based on age, sex, cardiac anatomy, or ablation substrate.
  • Recurrence was observed in 16.3% of patients with available follow-up data; no predictors for recurrence were identified.

Conclusions:

  • Pediatric ventricular arrhythmia ablation demonstrates a favorable success rate.
  • No significant predictors for procedural success, acute, or late outcomes were identified in this cohort.
  • Larger multicenter studies are recommended to further elucidate predictors and outcomes.
