Area of Science:

  • Environmental Science
  • Atmospheric Chemistry
  • Transportation Engineering

Context:

  • Port areas are significant sources of air pollution.
  • Mobile sources, including road and non-road vehicles, contribute substantially to emissions.
  • Accurate emission inventories are crucial for air quality management.

Purpose:

  • To develop a high-resolution emission inventory for self-owned mobile sources in Tianjin coastal ports.
  • To analyze the spatial and temporal distribution of air pollutants.
  • To assess the uncertainty of the emission inventory.

Summary:

  • A 3 km×3 km gridded emission inventory was created for six pollutants (PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NOx, CO, VOCs) from road and non-road mobile sources in Tianjin coastal ports for 2020.
  • Non-road mobile sources, primarily ships and construction machinery, accounted for 93.34% of total emissions, while road sources contributed 6.66%.
  • Uncertainty analysis using the Monte Carlo method indicated an overall mobile source uncertainty range of -13.3% to 16.53%.

Impact:

  • Provides critical data for understanding and mitigating air pollution from port mobile sources.
  • Informs targeted emission reduction strategies for ships, construction machinery, and road vehicles.
  • Enhances the accuracy of air quality modeling and environmental impact assessments in coastal port regions.
