Healthcare Associated Infections II: Preventive Measures

2.7K
Essential infection prevention measures are based on the knowledge of the infection chain, the modes of transmission in healthcare settings, and the use of the best practices in all healthcare settings. Compulsory public reporting of healthcare-associated infection rates is needed to allow individuals and the community to make informed choices regarding selecting a healthcare facility.
The best practices for preventing healthcare-associated infections include hand hygiene, patient risk...

Primary care promotes wellness and prevents disease. This care includes health promotion, education, protection (such as immunizations), early disease screening, and environmental considerations. Settings providing this type of healthcare include physician offices, public health clinics, school nursing, and community health nursing.

Methods Of Healthcare Delivery System

3.4K
At the different levels of the healthcare system, we see varying methods of healthcare used. These methods include managed care systems, case management, and primary healthcare.
Managed Care System:
The managed care system is designed to control the cost while maintaining the quality of care. The patient's care from admission to discharge is planned by the primary care provider or the case manager, also known as the gatekeeper. In a managed care system, the number of care providers is...

Issues And Trends In Healthcare Delivery System

5.7K
The issues and trends in healthcare delivery are constantly changing. The COVID-19 pandemic is one recent issue that wreaked havoc on healthcare systems, causing a shortage of healthcare workers, high demand for medicines and supplies, and increased medical expenditure due to a lack of insurance. Other issues include rising healthcare costs and care fragmentation.
Cost Containment
Payment for healthcare services has historically promoted adoption of costly and often unnecessary or inefficient...

Area of Science:

  • Occupational Health
  • Public Health
  • Information Science

Background:

  • Over 80% of the global workforce lacks access to occupational health services, particularly informal, agricultural, small enterprise, and self-employed workers often in hazardous conditions.
  • Key global health organizations advocate for integrating basic occupational health services (BOHS) into primary care.
  • Scarcity of accessible, quality information hinders the advancement and research of BOHS.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop an open-access bibliography and repository of publications on BOHS and related innovations.
  • To support and advance research and practical implementation of BOHS globally.
  • To consolidate existing knowledge and identify gaps in the literature concerning BOHS.

Main Methods:

  • Database design and systematic literature searches were conducted using PubMed, Google Scholar, and SciELO.
  • Each selected publication was cataloged with bibliographic data, a concise content description (respecting copyright), and a hyperlink.
  • The methodology focused on creating a structured and accessible resource for researchers and practitioners.

Main Results:

  • A database comprising 189 references on BOHS was compiled, including journal articles, reports, policy documents, and lecture abstracts.
  • Publications covered global (43) and national/regional (146) perspectives on BOHS.
  • A notable scarcity of operational and evaluative research material on BOHS was identified.

Conclusions:

  • The developed repository can inspire stakeholders by showcasing international BOHS practices and facilitate reviews and analyses.
  • Future efforts should focus on expanding the repository with publications from underrepresented regions and developing enhanced search functionalities.
  • Intensified international collaboration is crucial to achieve universal occupational health coverage for all workers.
