Side-by-side utility terrain vehicle (UTV) riders experience significantly more severe hand injuries, including amputations, compared to all-terrain vehicle (ATV) riders. UTV accidents also lead to longer hospital stays and more operations, highlighting increased risks.

Background:

  • Mutilating hand injuries from all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) are on the rise.
  • Understanding injury patterns and outcomes associated with ATV and UTV accidents is crucial for improving patient care.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare upper extremity (UE) injury patterns, severity, and treatment outcomes between ATV and UTV accidents.
  • To identify specific risks associated with UTV use in relation to hand and UE injuries.

  • Retrospective analysis of 154 cases involving ATV and UTV accidents.
