Bone Marrow Sampling and Transplants01:22

Bone Marrow Sampling and Transplants

371
Bone marrow transplant is a potential cure for several diseases, including cancer and specific genetic disorders. Notably, this procedure is applicable for patients suffering from aplastic anemia, certain types of leukemia, severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID), Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, multiple myeloma, thalassemia, sickle-cell disease, and certain cancers.
The transplant begins with high doses of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, which aim to destroy...

Summary

Advanced imaging techniques like PET/CT and MRI can visualize myelofibrosis bone marrow abnormalities. Early treatment response in myelofibrosis patients was reflected by T1-weighted MRI, indicating imaging

Area of Science:

  • Hematology
  • Radiology
  • Medical Imaging

Background:

  • Myelofibrosis diagnosis relies on bone marrow biopsy, which has limitations like sampling errors.

  • Bone marrow (BM) abnormalities in myelofibrosis are heterogeneous, complicating imaging technique selection.
  • Exploratory studies suggest imaging may offer an alternative for evaluating myelofibrosis disease activity.
