Summary

This study investigated auditory and visual reaction time (RT) over 320 minutes. Results confirmed a consistent association between auditory and visual RTs throughout the experiment.

Background:

Reaction time (RT) is a fundamental measure in cognitive psychology.
Understanding the relationship between different sensory modalities' RTs is crucial for performance analysis.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine the relationship between auditory and visual reaction times over an extended period.
To analyze the temporal evolution of these performances.

Main Methods:

24 subjects performed auditory and visual RT tasks at 10-minute intervals for 320 minutes.
Correlations and cross-correlation functions were calculated between auditory and visual RTs.

Main Results:

A significant association between auditory and visual RTs was confirmed and maintained throughout the 320-minute experiment.

No significant differences in mean RT were observed based on sex or time of day.

Significant differences were found in the trend slope between stimulus type and sex.

Conclusions:

Auditory and visual reaction times are closely related and this association persists over long durations.
While overall performance is not affected by sex or time of day, the rate of change in performance can differ between sexes depending on the stimulus type.
