    Summary

    Adolescent boys show a strong connection between perceived exertion, heart rate, and exercise intensity during cycling. This relationship is similar to that observed in adults, validating RPE as a measure in this age group.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between RPE, heart rate (HR), and power output (PO) in adolescent schoolboys.
    • To determine if these relationships align with those found in adult populations.
    • To validate the use of RPE as an indicator of exercise intensity in young males.

    Main Methods:

    • Thirty adolescent schoolboys (15-17 years) participated in the study.
    • Participants performed exercise on a cycle ergometer at 30%, 60%, and 90% of their predicted maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max).
    • Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) and heart rate (HR) were recorded at each power output (PO).
