    Summary

    Rociverine and flavoxate effectively reduced nighttime urination in elderly patients. Rociverine showed excellent tolerance, suggesting further study for nocturia and incontinence is warranted.

    Background:

    • Common causes include bladder instability, resorption of postural edema, and senile involution.
    • Effective pharmacological interventions are needed to manage nocturia in this population.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of rociverine and flavoxate in reducing or eliminating nocturnal voidings.
    • To compare the effectiveness and tolerance of a single evening dose of rociverine versus flavoxate in elderly patients with nocturia.

    Main Methods:

    • A six-day, three-period crossover trial involving 40 inpatient men and women aged 50-80 with nocturia.
    • Participants received either 20 mg rociverine or 200 mg flavoxate at 8 PM in a randomized sequence.
    • Data collected included voiding intervals, nocturnal urine volume, and number of nocturnal voidings.

    Main Results:

    • Both rociverine and flavoxate significantly reduced the number of nocturnal voidings.
    • A marked lengthening of the interval between drug administration and the first voiding was observed.
