Sustainable disaster risk reduction training model for nurses: A descriptive qualitative approach

Background:

• To develop a sustainable disaster risk reduction training model specifically for nurses.

• Data collection involved a literature review, focus group discussions with seven participants, and expert panel discussions with five participants.
• Data were gathered between August and September 2022.

• A 3-level training model was developed: Master of Trainer Training (MOT), Training of Trainers (TOT), and Training of Providers (TOP).
• Professional governance serves as the integrating element for the three training levels.
• The model is built upon six key pillars: leadership, resources, intervention, cultural and spiritual approach, motivation, and policy alignment.

Conclusions:

• The developed model offers a conceptual framework for sustainable disaster risk reduction training in nursing.
• It has the potential to support the continuity of educational interventions in disaster nursing.
