Applied behavior analysis (ABA) graduate programs can improve diversity and culturally responsive service delivery (CSRD) training. Providing faculty with tailored resources increased CSRD content in ABA course syllabi.
Area of Science:
- Behavioral Science
- Education
Background:
- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) practitioners often lack diversity in race and gender.
- Many ABA practitioners do not receive training in culturally responsive service delivery (CSRD).
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the impact of a supplemental diversity and CSRD curriculum on ABA graduate faculty.
- To assess changes in diversity and CSRD content within ABA master's program course syllabi.
Main Methods:
- A pre/post pilot study design was employed.
- Six ABA faculty members received a supplemental diversity/CSRD curriculum, including tailored objectives and resources.
- Changes in course syllabi content were analyzed.
Main Results:
- Providing faculty with tailored objectives and resources may increase diversity and CSRD content in course syllabi.
- This pilot study suggests a positive effect of supplemental curriculum on faculty integration of diversity and CSRD topics.
Conclusions:
- Incorporating diversity and CSRD training into ABA graduate programs is recommended.
- Further empirical research is needed to develop and validate effective training strategies for ABA graduate programs.
