Any functional impairment after ischemic stroke (IS) significantly increases the risk of developing post-stroke depression. This study found that functional impairment predicts depression within six months, highlighting the need for targeted support.

- Patients without functional impairment have a lower risk of developing post-stroke depression.
- Early identification and management of functional deficits are crucial for preventing PSD.
