A new scale was developed to measure educational leadership in nursing students. This tool, the Educational Leadership Scale for Nursing Students, has been validated and is reliable for assessing these crucial healthcare skills.
Area of Science:
- Healthcare Education
- Nursing Leadership
- Educational Psychology
Background:
- Effective educational leadership is critical for improving healthcare quality.
- A validated instrument is needed to assess the educational leadership capabilities of nursing staff.
- Existing measures may not adequately capture the nuances of educational leadership within nursing education.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a psychometrically sound scale to evaluate educational leadership among nursing students.
- To establish the validity and reliability of the newly developed Educational Leadership Scale for Nursing Students.
Main Methods:
- The study involved 280 Turkish nursing students.
- Scale development followed a five-stage process, including literature review, item generation, expert content validation, pilot testing, and psychometric analysis.
- Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, and Pearson correlation were used to confirm validity and reliability.
Main Results:
- The final Educational Leadership Scale for Nursing Students comprises 19 items structured into three factors.
- Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated adequate model fit, supporting the scale's construct validity.
- Reliability was confirmed, with Cronbach's alpha for all factors exceeding 0.70.
Conclusions:
- The developed Educational Leadership Scale for Nursing Students is a valid and reliable tool.
- This scale can effectively measure the educational leadership characteristics of nursing students, contributing to enhanced healthcare education.
