Aortic connective tissue content in White Leghorn females
Poultry Science
|February 1, 1986
Abstract:
The aortae of adult female chickens were analyzed for their connective tissue content. Collagen increased primarily in the distal aorta; elastin decreased between the proximal and middle aorta; the collagen to elastin ratio increased progressively along the aorta. These changes in connective tissue contribute to nonuniform mechanical properties and related hemodynamic phenomena of the avian aorta.
