Abstract:
Gao Y, Wang F, Zhang L, et al. LINC00311 promotes cancer stem-like properties by targeting miR-330-5p/TLR4 pathway in human papillary thyroid cancer. Cancer Med. 2020; 9: 1515-1528. https://doi.org/10.1002/cam4.2815. The above article, published online on 02 January 2020 in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by the journal's Editor-in-Chief, Dr Stephen Tait, and John Wiley & Sons Ltd. The retraction has been agreed due to concerns regarding image manipulation, which were brought to the journal's attention by a third party. A detailed investigation confirmed substantial inconsistencies. As a result, the journal no longer has confidence in the results and conclusions reported.
Insights
This study on papillary thyroid cancer is retracted due to confirmed image manipulation. The journal lost confidence in the findings regarding LINC00311 and cancer stem-like properties.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Molecular Biology
- Genetics
Context:
- Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most common type of thyroid malignancy.
- Cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) are implicated in tumor recurrence and metastasis.
- Understanding the molecular mechanisms driving CSC properties is crucial for developing effective therapies.
Purpose:
- To investigate the role of long non-coding RNA LINC00311 in promoting cancer stem-like properties in human papillary thyroid cancer.
- To elucidate the underlying molecular pathway involving microRNA-330-5p (miR-330-5p) and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4).
Summary:
- The study proposed that LINC00311 enhances CSC characteristics in PTC by regulating the miR-330-5p/TLR4 axis.
- LINC00311 was suggested to act as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) for miR-330-5p, thereby upregulating TLR4 expression.
- This interaction was hypothesized to promote stemness and potentially contribute to tumor progression.
Impact:
- This research aimed to identify LINC00311 as a potential therapeutic target for PTC.
- The findings could have implications for understanding CSC biology in thyroid cancer.
- However, the article has been retracted due to confirmed image manipulation, invalidating its conclusions.

Somatic Spinal Reflexes
One of the most well-known somatic spinal reflexes is the stretch reflex, which is activated by the sudden stretching of a muscle. This reflex involves the activation of specialized sensory receptors called muscle spindles, which are located in the muscle tissue and detect changes in the length and speed of muscle contractions. When a muscle is suddenly...

Relaxation of Skeletal Muscles
When an action potential reaches the axon terminal, it depolarizes the membrane and opens voltage-gated sodium channels. Sodium ions enter the cell, further depolarizing the presynaptic membrane. This depolarization causes voltage-gated calcium channels to open....
