Summary

This study found that Coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19) has a similar prognosis in patients with and without allergic rhinitis (AR). The incidence of AR was lower in Covid-19 patients.

  • Covid-19 shares upper respiratory symptoms with allergic rhinitis (AR).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between Covid-19 and AR.
  • To assess the impact of Covid-19 on patients with AR.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 322 Covid-19 patients diagnosed via PCR.
  • Medical history review to identify patients with pre-existing AR.
  • Phone confirmation of AR diagnosis using the Score for Allergic Rhinitis (SFAR) questionnaire.

Main Results:

  • The study included 322 patients (18-85 years); 5.9% had a history of AR.
  • No significant differences were observed in age, gender, presentation, ICU admission, or hospital stay duration between AR and non-AR groups.
  • Covid-19 prognosis was similar for patients with and without AR.

Conclusions:

  • Covid-19 outcomes do not differ based on allergic rhinitis history.
  • A lower incidence of AR was noted among Covid-19 patients.
