  • Participants judged the duration of faces presented across short (200-800 ms) and long (400-1,600 ms) ranges.
  • Data were analyzed to assess temporal overestimation effects for angry versus neutral faces.

Main Results:

  • Visual cues and action preparation instructions increased perceived face duration.
  • An initial underestimation of angry faces at short durations (Experiment 1) was not replicated.
  • Temporal overestimation for angry faces increased with stimulus duration (Experiment 2).
  • Action preparedness (push/pull joystick) reduced the magnitude of temporal overestimation for angry faces.

Conclusions:

  • Visual cues and action preparation modulate time perception of emotional stimuli.
  • The duration of angry faces is perceived as longer, particularly at extended durations.
  • Action preparedness can mitigate the temporal overestimation effect associated with angry faces.
