Abstract:
Recent studies have shown that microtransplant (MST) could improve outcome of patients with elderly acute myeloid leukemia (EAML). To further standardize the MST therapy and improve outcomes in EAML patients, based on analysis of the literature on MST, especially MST with EAML from January 1st, 2011 to November 30th, 2022, the International Microtransplant Interest Group provides recommendations and considerations for MST in the treatment of EAML. Four major issues related to MST for treating EAML were addressed: therapeutic principle of MST (1), candidates for MST (2), induction chemotherapy regimens (3), and post-remission therapy based on MST (4). Others included donor screening, infusion of donor cells, laboratory examinations, and complications of treatment.
Insights
Microtransplant (MST) shows promise for elderly acute myeloid leukemia (EAML) patients. This review standardizes MST therapy, offering recommendations to improve treatment outcomes for EAML.
Area of Science:
- Hematology
- Oncology
- Transplantation Medicine
Background:
- Elderly acute myeloid leukemia (EAML) presents unique treatment challenges.
- Microtransplant (MST) has emerged as a potential therapeutic strategy for EAML.
- Standardization of MST protocols is needed to optimize patient outcomes.
Purpose of the Study:
- To provide evidence-based recommendations for Microtransplant (MST) in treating elderly acute myeloid leukemia (EAML).
- To standardize MST therapy by addressing key clinical considerations.
- To improve treatment outcomes for EAML patients undergoing MST.
Main Methods:
- Comprehensive literature review of MST for EAML from January 1st, 2011, to November 30th, 2022.
- Analysis focused on therapeutic principles, patient selection, chemotherapy regimens, and post-remission strategies.
- Expert consensus from the International Microtransplant Interest Group.
Main Results:
- Key recommendations cover the therapeutic principle, candidate selection, and induction chemotherapy for MST in EAML.
- Guidelines are provided for post-remission therapy following MST.
- Considerations for donor screening, cell infusion, laboratory tests, and managing complications are detailed.
Conclusions:
- Standardized MST protocols can enhance treatment efficacy for EAML patients.
- These recommendations aim to guide clinicians in optimizing MST for elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia.
- Further refinement of MST is crucial for improving survival and quality of life in EAML.
