Summary

Plasma exeresis effectively treats keloid scars, significantly reducing their thickness, pigmentation, and vascularity. This scar treatment method also alleviates itching and pain with no reported complications.

Background:

  • Keloid and hypertrophic scars are common after skin injury and can be challenging to treat.
  • Existing treatments include topical agents, surgery, and lasers, with varying efficacy.
  • Plasma exeresis is an emerging modality for skin lesion treatment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of plasma exeresis in treating keloid scars.
  • To assess changes in scar characteristics using the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS).

Main Methods:

  • An experimental study involving 16 patients with 24 keloid scars.
  • Treatment involved 2-to-3 sessions of plasma exeresis.

Conclusions:

  • Plasma exeresis is an effective treatment for reducing the size and improving the appearance of keloid scars.
  • The procedure leads to significant reductions in scar-related symptoms like itching and pain.
  • Plasma exeresis demonstrated no significant complications or recurrences in the study period.
