Summary

Acute traumatic spondyloptosis (ATS) is a rare spinal injury. Surgical fixation is warranted for ATS, even without initial neurological deficits, to ensure stability.

Background:

  • Acute traumatic spondyloptosis (ATS) is exceptionally rare in medical literature.
  • Multilevel spinal injuries present complex challenges in orthopedic trauma.

Observation:

  • A case of ATS in a 35-year-old male with multilevel injury but no neurological deficits was documented.
  • The patient underwent a two-stage surgical treatment involving anterior and posterior spinal decompression and fusion.

Findings:

  • The patient experienced no motor or sensory deficits post-surgery.
  • Spinal stability was maintained throughout the one-year follow-up period.

Implications:

  • ATS without neurological deficits is uncommon.
  • Surgical fixation is recommended for ATS, despite potential risks, to achieve stability.
