Background:

Interprofessional education (IPE) is an accreditation standard for health professionals.
This study evaluated a distance synchronous interprofessional simulation for midwifery students and obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) residents.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine the perceptions of midwifery students and OB-GYN residents participating in distance synchronous interprofessional simulation.
To assess the impact of simulation on preparedness for team-based care and understanding of professional scope of practice.

Main Methods:

Participants engaged in an interprofessional simulation via interactive video conferencing.
Midwifery students and OB-GYN residents from geographically distant programs participated.
Feedback was collected through post-simulation surveys.

Main Results:

86% of midwifery students and 59% of OB-GYN residents felt better prepared for team-based care.
77% of midwifery students and 53% of OB-GYN residents reported clearer understanding of the other's scope of practice.
87% of midwifery students and 74% of OB-GYN residents found the simulation a positive learning experience.

Conclusions:

Distance synchronous interprofessional education is valued by midwifery students and OB-GYN residents.
Simulation improved preparedness for team-based care and interprofessional understanding.
This modality enhances access to IPE for healthcare trainees.
