Reduced Cholesterol Levels during Acute Human Babesiosis

Cholesterol levels, including high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), significantly decrease during acute babesiosis. This cholesterol depletion may serve as an indicator of disease severity in babesiosis patients.
