A rare congenital disorder, lingual thyroid is ectopic thyroid tissue at the tongue base. This case report details a 16-year-old female diagnosed via scintigraphy, with active surveillance planned.

  • Lingual thyroid is a rare congenital disorder characterized by ectopic thyroid tissue at the base of the tongue.
  • This location is the most common for ectopic thyroid tissue and often represents the sole thyroid gland.
  • Congenital ectopic thyroid can present with various symptoms or be asymptomatic.
