Altered thalamic volume in patients with mild autonomous cortisol secretion: a structural brain MRI study

Mild autonomous cortisol secretion (MACS) may lead to reduced thalamic volume, even without cognitive impairment. This study compared thalamic volumes in patients with MACS, Cushing's syndrome (CS), and controls, finding significant differences in thalamic size.

- Thalamic volume reduction may occur in MACS independently of overt cognitive deficits.
- These findings suggest that even subclinical hypercortisolism can impact brain structure.
