Background:

Nature-based interventions are increasingly explored in pediatric occupational therapy.
Existing literature lacks a clear definition and scope of these practices.
Practitioner interest in nature-based approaches is growing.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore the scope of nature-based interventions in pediatric occupational therapy.
To identify gaps in the existing literature regarding these interventions.

Main Methods:

A scoping review guided by Arksey and O'Malley's methodology and PRISMA-ScR framework.
Searched multiple databases (CINAHL, PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Embase, MEDLine) and gray literature.
Included English studies (published through June 2021) on occupational therapy services for ages 0-21, using nature as a primary context and treatment modality.

Main Results:

Twelve articles met inclusion criteria (2 quasi-experimental, 10 gray literature).
Interventions varied, but a lack of rigor was noted.
No clear conceptualization of nature-based pediatric occupational therapy was found.

Conclusions:

Significant gaps exist in the literature regarding nature-based occupational therapy.
A clear conceptualization of nature-based practices is needed.
The unique contribution of occupational therapy to nature-based practices requires further articulation.
