    Summary

    Repeated grenz ray therapy for psoriasis led to chronic skin damage and five squamous cell carcinomas in a patient. This highlights the underestimated cancer risk associated with grenz radiation, even at therapeutic doses.

    • A 30-year-old woman developed chronic radiodermatitis and multiple squamous cell carcinomas.
    • These occurred over a 7-year period after 16 years of repeated grenz irradiations for psoriasis.

    Findings:

    • The estimated cumulative dose was approximately 3,000 rads to each treated area.
    • This case demonstrates a significant, potentially underestimated, carcinogenic risk of grenz rays.

    Implications:

    • Grenz ray therapy may carry a higher risk of secondary malignancies than previously recognized.
    • Clinical review of grenz ray therapy techniques and long-term patient monitoring is warranted.
