Area of Science:

  • Oral pathology
  • Odontogenic tumors
  • Pediatric dentistry

Background:

  • Ameloblastic fibroma is a rare mixed odontogenic tumor, predominantly affecting the posterior mandible.
  • The peripheral variant of ameloblastic fibroma is exceptionally rare, with only eight cases previously documented worldwide.

Observation:

  • This report presents a unique case of peripheral ameloblastic fibroma in the maxillary gingiva of a 10-year-old child.
  • The lesion presented as a slow-growing mass.

Findings:

  • A conservative surgical excision was performed for the peripheral ameloblastic fibroma.
  • No recurrence of the tumor was noted following the surgical intervention.

Implications:

  • Peripheral ameloblastic fibroma should be included in the differential diagnosis for slow-growing gingival lesions in children.
  • Conservative surgical management appears effective in treating this rare peripheral odontogenic tumor.
