  • To establish and evaluate a Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) telemedicine program.
  • To assess the safety, feasibility, and acceptability of remote MFM consultations and tele-ultrasound.
  • To improve access to specialized care for patients in remote locations.

Main Methods:

  • A multi-disciplinary team planned a quality improvement project starting December 2019.
  • Sonographer training preceded the implementation of a pilot telemedicine program.
  • Feasibility and acceptability were assessed via patient surveys, image audits, and neonatal outcome reviews.

Main Results:

  • Over 5000 patients traveled >2 hours to reach their birth site between 2017-2022.
  • Patient surveys indicated >85% experienced reduced costs and stress.
  • Ultrasound image quality improved and became more consistent after 3 months of training and supervision.
