  • 121 empirical studies analyzing Twitter data (tweets or metadata) on sexual violence were selected and coded.

  • The majority of studies (73.6%) were published after 2018, analyzing over 79 million tweets.
  • Content text analysis (92.5%) and sentiment analysis (25.6%) were primary methods, with hashtags being the most used metadata (85.1%).

  • This review outlines the current landscape of Twitter data use in sexual violence research and proposes a new data source taxonomy.
