    Summary

    This study investigated polyamine excretion during cell proliferation. Results suggest that while proliferating cells may contribute to increased polyamine levels, cell damage also plays a role.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine if actively proliferating cells release polyamines.
    • To investigate the relationship between cell proliferation and urinary polyamine excretion.
    • To differentiate polyamine release mechanisms during regeneration.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilized a rat partial hepatectomy model for liver regeneration.
    • Collected 24-hour urine samples for 6 consecutive days post-operation.
    • Measured urinary putrescine and spermidine excretion levels.

    Main Results:

    • Urinary putrescine excretion peaked 2 days after hepatectomy, then declined.
    • Urinary spermidine excretion increased on the second day post-operation.
    • A correlation was observed between proliferative activity and polyamine excretion.

    Conclusions:

    • Actively proliferating cells may contribute to increased urinary polyamine excretion.
    • Cell permeability changes and necrosis can also influence polyamine release.
    • Further research is needed to fully elucidate polyamine dynamics in cancer.
