Ureteroscopic pyelolysis for pelviureteric junction obstruction.

J A Inglis, D A Tolley

    British Journal of Urology
    |June 1, 1986
    PubMed
    Summary

Rigid uretero-renoscopy effectively treats secondary pelviureteric junction obstruction caused by strictures. This endourological technique offers a new option for managing complex upper urinary tract conditions.

    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Endourology
    • Surgical Techniques

    Background:

    • Endourological advancements focus on upper urinary tract stones.
    • Percutaneous pyelolysis and flexible ureteropyeloscopy are emerging treatments for pelviureteric junction obstruction (PUJ).
    • Secondary PUJ obstruction due to strictures presents a therapeutic challenge.

    Observation:

    • Two cases of secondary PUJ obstruction caused by strictures were identified.
    • A rigid uretero-renoscope was utilized for treatment in both cases.

    Findings:

    • Successful relief of stricture-induced secondary PUJ obstruction was achieved using rigid uretero-renoscopy.
    • This demonstrates the efficacy of rigid uretero-renoscopy in managing specific upper urinary tract obstructions.

    Implications:

    • Rigid uretero-renoscopy presents a viable endourological solution for secondary PUJ obstruction.
    • This technique expands the armamentarium for treating complex ureteral strictures.
    • Further research may validate this approach for broader clinical application.
