Summary

Recurrent meningitis can occur in patients with inner ear malformations, even decades after cochlear implantation. Radiologic assessment is crucial for identifying malformations before cochlear implant surgery.

Background:

Meningitis is a recognized complication in individuals with inner ear malformations.
Cochlear implantation is a common treatment for hearing loss, but carries potential risks.

Purpose of the Study:

To highlight the risk of recurrent meningitis after cochlear implantation in a patient with cochleovestibular anomaly.
To emphasize the importance of pre-operative radiologic evaluation for inner ear malformations.

Main Methods:

Case report presentation.
Review of relevant medical literature on meningitis and cochlear implantation in patients with inner ear anomalies.

Main Results:

The patient experienced recurrent meningitis following cochlear implantation.
The meningitis occurred in the context of a pre-existing cochleovestibular anomaly.
