Background:

  • Macular holes (MHs) are a common cause of vision loss.
  • Internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling is a standard surgical technique for MH repair.
  • Post-surgical retinal surface changes, such as dimples, can impact visual prognosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the microstructural changes associated with retinal surface dimples after ILM peeling for MHs.
  • To determine the prognostic significance of these dimples.
  • To classify different types of dimples observed post-surgery.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) images from patients undergoing idiopathic MH surgery.
  • Classification of inner retinal dimples into unidirectional, bidirectional, and complicated bidirectional types.
